I had already planned on sharing this photo and story before even hearing about the recent tragedy in Istanbul, but that act of terror only makes this post that much more important. When I was in Istanbul last November, I decided to spend my day a little differently. I had already been there, so I didn’t need to revisit the standard tourist hotspots. No, instead I wanted to learn more about the local community and culture, and in my opinion there’s no better way to learn about both than through food. Food tours are my favorite kind of tour for that very reason and I take them whenever I can. Walking around the Kadıköy neighborhood, I ate more than my fair share that afternoon and I learned a lot along the way. I was introduced to foods I had never heard of before, much less tried and my understanding of Istanbul not just as a city with beautiful monuments, but of her people was expanded greatly. As a great lover of coffee, my favorite stop along the tour was the final cafe we visited to sample that great beverage known simply as Turkish coffee. If you’ve never tried it before, you’re in for a shock after that first sip. While not for everyone, this robust coffee is an important tradition in Turkey and throughout this part of the world, and making it is equal parts art and science. Finely ground coffee beans are boiled in a pot with sugar and then served in a small cup where the grounds are allowed to settle. There’s nothing better in my opinion than slowly sipping a cup of this hearty brew while watching the world walk by – people watching at its best! If you’re curious to learn more about my tour in Istanbul, please be sure to check out the Adobe Slate board I put together (link in bio) featuring photos and stories from my time in Istanbul. I’m working with Adobe to show what their new free app can do for travelers and from my experience it’s a great way to show off your photos with friends and family. #Sponsored #MadeWithSlate #iphoneonly Matt Long (@landlopers) tarafından paylaşılan bir fotoğraf ()
